Tom and his team did an amazing job on our chimney rebuild and brick repointing. From start to finish they were prompt, professional, and communicative. I would highly recommend Michaliga Masonry for any and all work you need done.

Wow! As my fellow yelpers know, I rarely write 5 star reviews but I just had to yelp about Tom MIchaliga of MIchaliga Masonry! He did a beautiful, professional quality job on my front walkway/stoop using beautiful brick pavers in a herringbone pattern on both the walkway and stoop! If it wasn’t for him, I never would have known about Potomac Valley Brick in Newington, VA that offers brick and man-made stone in a variety of beautiful colors that you can’t find at Ernest Maier or other stone yards. Although I live east of the Anacostia River, I feel as though I live on Capitol Hill thanks to his work! He can do anything with brick, natural stone and cement. His estimate was in between Renaissance Development and other unlicensed “masons” so I feel I got my money’s worth. I especially appreciated his calling me at the end of each work day with updates and letting me know if he wasn’t working due to the weather. As far as the 2011 hidden yelp review re: this company not calling him back, it’s true that I had to call and email this company several times before I got a response and I was just about to give up…and that’s when I discovered Judy…the woman behind the man! She will respond to your calls and emails when Tom is busy working 7 days a week. So don’t give up! If you want a highly skilled mason who is licensed, bonded and insured in DC, then Tom is your guy!

Tom Michaliga is all you could ever hope for in a professional. He is a true masonary craftsman, with decades of experience and unmatched skill on Capitol Hill. His specialty is restoring historic architecture and elegant structures. In our situation, we needed an emergency repair on a 100 year old wall that was damaged by our neighbor’s demolition. It was a very intricate project requiring unusual skill and expertise and he did extraordinary work. It really matters to him most that things are done right. Not ony do his professional skills set him apart, most importantly, he has great integrity and truly cares about people. Thanks Tom for taking such excellent care of us and our home!

We had an overall excellent experience with michaliga masonry. Tom (the owner) impressed from the start by being knowledgeable without seeming like a know it all and made a trustworthy impression.we were then pleasantly surprised when he was the lowest of 3 bids. Our project involved persuading a persnickety property owner next door to allow us access to his roof. Tom took on this extra effort and persuaded the property owner successfully on our behalf. He also threw in an extra bit of chimney repair for free. It probably only took him 20 minutes to do but saved us the extra hassle of dealing with it. Most importantly the work looks great. Amazingly, he did the work himself with a helper…not one of those contract jobs where you never see the guy who sold you again. If only all contractors were as great as michaliga masonry. Our neighbor hired Tom on the spot after seeing his good work and has been equally happy.

Tom’s craftsmanship and work ethic have wildly exceeded all of my expectations – I highly recommend Tom (and Judy!) if you are looking for beautiful custom brick work. I recently bought a very small town house in Georgetown, and had to go through unbelievably complicated permitting in order to build a small brick garden wall. Tom and Judy were patient and very helpful (it took 6 months!), and started exactly when they said they would. Every day the work site was cleaned and tidy, and he took extra care with the neighbor and the city inspector (saving me from a citation at one point). Beyond that, his work is absolutely beautiful – he created a gorgeous archway over the gate, decorative and functional cap work, plus a pathway with retaining wall that i didn’t even know was needed. He worked hard every day, treating everybody with kindness and respect. I think Tom is as good as it gets! I hope to have him help me with more brick work down the road.

OK. I have one of those old brick houses in Georgetown where everything had been covered up and drywalled over and painted and wall-papered. What you don’t know won’t hurt you right? Wrong. Over the years, I have basically had to re-build this brick house and THANK GOD for Tom Michaliga who did all the brick-work expertly and as-if nothing ever happened. Project after project – from re-building old fireplaces, to re-building brick walls, to installing a tricky balcony 3 floors up with an even trickier rare sandstone – Tom handled it all like a champ. I now have one of the most well-rebuilt and expertly crafted houses in the neighborhood. Two words of advice: HIRE HIM. Worth every penny.
